Forest Bathing with Horses
At Equines for Healing, we’ve taken the restorative practice of Shinrin-yoku, Japanese “forest bathing,” and given it a powerful new dimension: the presence of horses.
What is Forest Bathing?
Forest bathing is the art of slowing down and immersing yourself in the natural world through all five senses. Originating in Japan in the 1980s, it’s been proven to reduce stress, improve mood, boost immunity, and enhance mental clarity. Unlike hiking, forest bathing isn’t about covering miles; it’s about being, not doing.
Research shows that spending mindful time in nature lowers stress hormones, supports heart health, and improves focus. Trees release natural compounds called phytoncides, which promote relaxation and strengthen immune function.
Why Add Horses?
Horses are deeply attuned to their surroundings and mirror the energy of those around them. In our sessions, their calm presence amplifies the grounding effects of nature. As you walk through wooded paths, pause under shade trees, and breathe in the fresh air, the horses’ steady rhythm encourages you to match their pace, bringing your mind and body into balance.
